What This Site Is, and What It Is Not

1. Not legal or financial advice
Nothing on this website is legal, financial, tax, accounting or investment advice. Hendrik Schoeman is not an attorney, is not a member of any bar, and does not hold himself out as a lawyer. He does not represent any person in any court, in any arbitration, or in any legal capacity, and nothing here creates an attorney–client relationship.
On anything that is genuinely legal or financial in nature, you should consult your own independent attorney, accountant or financial adviser. Where a matter requires an attorney, that will be said plainly and early. Part of the value of an experienced second opinion is telling you when a problem has crossed that line — because the alternative is paying legal rates for a question that never needed them.
2. Professional opinion based on experience
Everything on this site — the service descriptions, the FAQ, the Field Notes — is professional opinion and practical experience, offered as general information. It is not a substitute for advice on your specific facts, and it is not a finding, a certification, a legal determination, or an engineering opinion of record.
Construction contracting, government acquisition rules and industry practice change. Content may go out of date. No warranty of accuracy, currency or completeness is given or implied.
3. No client relationship is created here
Reading this site, using the chat tool, or sending an email or a project brief does not create a client, consultant, agency or fiduciary relationship of any kind. That happens only under a written engagement agreed and signed by both parties. Until then, nothing you send is treated as confidential and nothing you read may be relied upon as advice for your project.
4. No outcome is guaranteed
No result, saving, recovery, entitlement, award, schedule date or commercial outcome is promised or guaranteed. What is offered is the quality of the analysis and the honesty of the recommendation. What cannot be controlled is the other party, the market, the weather, the utility, the authority having jurisdiction, or the decisions other people make.
Any engagement is governed by its own written terms — scope, fees, and the limits of responsibility — which are agreed before work begins. Where those terms and this page differ, the engagement terms govern.
5. Professional engineering
Hendrik Schoeman is a licensed Professional Engineer. Nothing on this website constitutes the practice of engineering in any jurisdiction, and no engineering services are offered, performed or delivered through this website. Work that requires an engineering seal or a licensed design professional is performed only where licensure, scope and insurance permit it — and where they do not, that will be said rather than worked around.
6. Confidential and proprietary information
Client information is treated as confidential. Client documents, drawings, schedules, pricing, correspondence and internal analysis are not published, quoted, reproduced or paraphrased on this site without written permission.
Published Field Notes are written from professional experience and describe situations in general terms. Identifying details are removed, and the point of an entry is the lesson rather than the case. If you are a client, a former client, or a party to a matter and you believe an item identifies you or discloses something that is yours, contact us and it will be reviewed and removed promptly, without argument.
7. Third-party material, quotation and copyright
Where material from a public source is quoted — including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), agency guidance, published standards, court decisions and publicly available reports — it is attributed to its source and reproduced only to the extent needed to make the point. Public sources are cited rather than imitated.
If you believe anything on this site infringes your copyright or reproduces your proprietary information, contact us with the item and the basis for the claim. It will be reviewed and removed promptly if warranted.
8. About this website
The chat tool on this site is a scripted, self-contained page element. It does not contact a third party, does not use a language model, does not load an analytics service, and does not send your answers anywhere. Anything you choose to send afterwards, you send yourself from your own email.
